Fireplace F.A.Q

  1. Can I install gas in this unit?
  1. Yes there is a knockout on the left and right (use a screw driver and hammer to knock out the hole) for the pipe and you would carefully lay the unit down on its back on a blanket.  Snake a flexible yellow gas appliance 36” long connector through the hole and out the bottom or side.  Do the pipe installation by a licensed plumber.
  1. What is the damper control?
  1. Closing it puts more heat out the front.  It must be fully open for wood.
  1. Why it it not sealed at the top opening of the chimney?
  1. After it rains any water that has entered will drain away immediately.  We have learned from experience that water always gets in one way or another and if it is sealed it causes mold and mildew.  Having it open allows air drying and guarantees no mold problems.
  1. Why is the cap black on wood burning models?
  1. Starting from the first log black soot from the smoke gets on it an looks ugly so our customers asked us to make it black to begin with to match the smoke stains and the firebox.
  1. Is the cap necessary?

A.  No, but it keeps the rain out for wood or gas/gel fuel logs so they stay pretty dry.  Not an issue with fire glass but you may like the ‘look’ of the cap anyway.

Q.    Will it blow over?

  1. It is possible so if you have unusually high winds and it is not protected from them by part of the house etc., then get some polyurethane construction adhesive and run a bead all around under the perimeter.
  1. What maintenance is necessary?
  1. None.  The materials get stronger with harsh weather and moisture.
  1. Do I need to cover it in when not in use?
  1. Not necessary.  Even the firebox is powder coated galvanized steel but as with anything outdoors it will be better with a cover to protect it.
  1. Can I use Gel Fuel logs and fire glass?
  1. Yes
  1. Can I place it under a patio cover.
  1. Yes except not with wood burning units.  Make sure the highest flame does not get the surface too hot above the chimney after 15 minutes.  Check you local building codes.  We are not responsible for these type of installations.
  1. Can I remove the screen curtains?
  1. Yes, Easy one screw each.  We do not recommend this on combustible floors.
  1. How do I remove the log grate?
  1. Remove the screw and clip above the back brick liner, raise it and pull out the grate, replace the clip.
  1. Are there any options available?
  1. Yes we have a hearth and trim kit, serving, bars, grill islands, fire pits, to match it.

Q. Can I paint it?

A.  Yes use an acrylic latex house paint or stain.

Q. Can I use it indoors?

A.  Yes but it needs venting as per local codes.
